February 23, 1945:  Atop volcanic Mt. Suribachi, Marines of the 3rd Platoon, Easy Company, 28th Regiment, 5th Marine Division, hoist the first American flag over Iwo Jima. As Old Glory breaks the skyline, a tremendous roar of shouts and whistles will emerge from the Marines on the beaches and the sailors at sea. Later, this flag will be lowered and a replacement raised. Although a photo of the second flag would be cherished by the home front, the first flag belonged to the heroes of Iwo Jima.

Iwo Jima, the First Flag is the only print edition ever signed by an Iwo Jima flag raiser, Chuck Lindberg, the last living flag raiser!  Lindberg is the flamethrower operator portrayed in Clint Eastwood's movie Flags of Our Fathers!  Signers include Lindberg's platoonmates from E-Company, the company that raised BOTH flags on Iwo Jima!  This is famed sports artist Ron Stark's first military print. It won't be his last, so collectors have the opportunity to start collecting from the beginning!

Each lithograph has been personally signed by famed artist Ron Stark. Some editions bear the signatures of Cpl. Chuck Lindberg, the last living flag raiser, along with his fellow heroes of Iwo Jima, the Marines of 3rd Platoon, E-Company, 28th Marines, who fought in the battle for Mt. Suribachi. Their platoon is believed to be the most decorated platoon in Marine Corps history for a single engagement.
